Dreaming of a New Home – Shining Stars Children’s Home Build Project

Currently housed in rented accommodation it is our wish to provide a home for the children where they can take refuge from the world, feel safe, feel loved, be happy and grow healthily in order that they may become successful, compassionate adults and contribute positively to their community and country.
Land was purchased in July 2007 thus beginning the transformation of dream to reality.  The ground breaking ceremony took place on November 19th 2008 and the build proper began later that month.

Designed by award winning Nepali Architect Biren Gurung, the home will be environmentally sustainable, while respecting cultural considerations and incorporating traditional design elements. The build will utilise local skills, labour, building materials and techniques for construction. The two storey main building will house all the children and staff, a large common/play room, in-home library and training room for developing vocational skills.  The dining room, kitchen, office and visiting room are located in a separate building.  Outside, there will be a vegetable and fruit garden and plenty of space for the children to play.

Our dream is growing day by day, despite water, brick and cement shortages and is due to be completed towards the beginning of 2010, with the children moving to their new home in the Spring.

Through the amazing support of VSN’s donors, 50% of the total build costs have been raised to date.  However, we still face the uphill struggle of finding the remaining money by the end of 2009 in order to complete the build.
